Early Careers

Our clerkship program offers high-performing law students the opportunity to immerse themselves in professional legal practice within a dynamic and driven environment.

Why Clerk With Us?

Meaningful Responsibility

From the outset, you will be trusted with substantive work that contributes to real client outcomes. We believe clerks learn best through genuine involvement in matters, not observation alone. You will be encouraged to think critically, ask questions and take ownership of your work.

Direct Access to Senior Lawyers

You will work closely with partners and senior members of our legal team, gaining valuable insight into their approach to strategy, client management, and decision-making. Our size and structure ensure that clerks receive hands-on supervision, practical guidance and consistent feedback.

Exposure to High Quality Work

Our matters are complex, commercially significant and often high-profile. As a clerk, you will gain insight into sophisticated legal and commercial issues, developing both your technical capability and your commercial awareness.

A Supportive and Collaborative Culture

We are committed to maintaining a professional yet approachable environment. Clerks are valued members of the team, and we take pride in fostering a culture that supports learning, collaboration and professional growth.

Program Structure

Duration & Timing

Our Clerkship Program is a four-week paid internship, with clerks attending in-office three consecutive days per week. This structure is designed to provide practical exposure to the firm’s work while allowing students to balance their university commitments. We offer multiple intakes throughout the year, with programs generally commencing in March and September. During the program, clerks are immersed in the day-to-day work of the firm, working closely with our legal team and contributing to client matters from the outset.

Mentoring

Each clerk is paired with a senior member of our legal team for the duration of the internship, who will provide supervision, guidance and regular feedback. Having a dedicated mentor ensures you are supported throughout the program, while gaining valuable insight into strategy, client management and professional judgment as you develop your skills and confidence in practice.

Our Application Process

Submitting Your Application

When applying for the Clerkship Program, your application should include your CV, resume, and an academic transcript that reflects your most recent and complete results. Ensuring your documents are accurate, well-presented and tailored to the role will assist us in gaining a clear understanding of your skills, academic performance and potential.

First Round Interview

Your first interview will be with two members of our team: our People & Operations Manager and an Associate. This conversation is designed to help us get to know you better. We’ll ask about your work experience, your interests in law, and how you balance university, part-time work and your social life. We may also discuss your academic transcript and any particular subjects or results you are proud of.

Second Round Interview

If you progress to the next stage, you will be invited to a second interview with one of our Principals and our Chief Operating Officer. This interview is more structured than the first. While the initial conversation focuses on getting to know you, the second interview is about understanding how you could grow and succeed as part of our high-performance team. We will explore your professional goals, your ability to think critically and work under pressure, and your commitment to continuous improvement.

Offer Stage

After the interview process is complete, the successful candidates will be contacted directly and provided with the relevant details and next steps. Once the offer is accepted, our Careers Team will begin preparing for your commencement with the firm!

FAQs

Can I apply if I do not have prior legal experience?

Yes! While prior legal experience is valuable, it is not essential. We are interested in transferable skills, initiative and a demonstrated commitment to learning.

Will I rotate across different practice areas?

Given the four-week duration of the program, clerks are not rotated between teams. Instead, you will be placed in the practice group outlined in the position listing. Alongside your day-to-day work, you will have the chance to learn about the firm more broadly and have opportunities to connect with lawyers across different teams.

Does the clerkship lead to an ongoing role?

Clerkships can lead to ongoing roles as graduates. While we do not guarantee ongoing positions, opportunities may be available depending on the needs of our business at the time.

Can I apply if I am studying interstate or overseas?

Yes, absolutely!

Students studying interstate or overseas are welcome to apply. Please note, however, that internships are completed onsite at the location of the specific role, so you will need to ensure you are available at that location for the duration of the placement.
